The day’s toll

In the 24 hours to the morning of 13 October, Kharkiv and 16 other settlements in the region came under Russian attack. Kharkiv Regional Military Administration head Oleh Syniehubov said four people were killed and 51 injured, including four children. In Kharkiv itself three people died and 37 were injured; among those affected were a 10-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl with acute stress reactions. In Lozova a 71-year-old woman was killed.

Ukrinform listed the weapons used: nine missiles, one guided aerial bomb, seven Geran-2 drones, five Molniya drones, three FPV drones and 24 drones of unidentified type. Strikes hit Kharkiv’s Kyivskyi, Kholodnohirskyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts.

Damage

In Kharkiv 10 apartment blocks and 13 private houses were damaged, along with a sports complex, 11 cars, an enterprise, railway infrastructure and a bank building. In Kupiansk, Izium, Kharkiv, Lozova and Chuhuiv districts — houses, power lines, administrative buildings, a shop and farm machinery. Earlier, three bodies had been found under the rubble of a residential building in Kholodnohirskyi district after a missile strike.

The transit evacuation centre in Lozova received 171 people over the day; more than 64,000 have registered there since it opened.

Context of the mass attack

These strikes fit the overnight wave from the evening of 12 October: five ballistic missiles, nine Banderols and 108 attack drones across Ukraine; air defences neutralized 88 drones, with impacts at 17 locations. France 24 noted that on 13 October Russia for the first time since Trump’s “energy ceasefire” announcement appeared to spare energy targets while still hitting cities and logistics — including with four dead in Kharkiv.

Why it matters

Kharkiv remains one of the most heavily shelled large cities. A day with four dead and more than fifty injured, including children, shows the cost of even “limited” strikes on housing when diplomacy talks of a truce and a frontline city lives under rockets and drones every night.
