What happened

Overnight into 15 October Kirovohrad region suffered its largest Russian drone attack since the full-scale invasion. Regional head Andrii Raikovych reported nearly 360 drones over the oblast and hits at 26 locations, mostly in Kropyvnytskyi. Three people were killed and six injured; five were hospitalised.

National Police documented strikes on industrial sites, warehouses, homes, vehicles, logistics centres and transport infrastructure in Kropyvnytskyi, Oleksandriia and Novoukrainka districts. Raikovych said the enemy deliberately hit critical infrastructure, transport firms, logistics and housing.

Nationwide night wave

Ukraine’s Air Force said that from 18:00 on 14 October Russia used two Kh-59 guided air missiles from the Black Sea and 580 Shahed-type, Gerbera and “Parodiia” decoy drones. By 08:00 on 15 October air defences had shot down or suppressed 536 drones; hits were recorded at 31 locations and debris falls at 11.

President Zelensky separately named Kirovohrad among the hardest-hit regions and reported three dead in Kropyvnytskyi and three more in Dnipropetrovsk region.

Context

The oblast had less often faced such massed strikes than front-line regions. The attack coincided with Kyiv’s talk of artificial limits on defensive capability (including Starlink/Starshield) and the resumption of strikes on Russian refineries. Zelensky said Russia deliberately escalated after sanctions relief and pressure on Ukraine.

Why it matters

Nearly 360 drones against one region show that the deep rear is no longer quiet: logistics, warehouses and homes in central Ukraine are regular targets. Even with a high shoot-down rate nationally (536 of 580), dozens of hits leave dead, damaged infrastructure and heavy work for emergency crews ahead of winter.
