What happened

Overnight into 14 October Russian forces again attacked Kyiv with ballistic missiles. According to Mayor Vitali Klitschko, cited by Ukrinform, two people were killed and 21 injured, including an eight-year-old child. Sixteen of the injured were hospitalised, four in serious condition.

A missile hit a nine-storey residential building in Desnianskyi district. Apartments from the first through eighth floors caught fire; search-and-rescue continued as residents of the upper floors were evacuated. A warehouse in the same district also burned, and debris sparked a grass fire at a stadium in Darnytskyi district.

Scale of the night attack

Ukraine’s Air Force reported ballistic launches toward the capital. According to earlier Ukrinform figures, since the evening of 12 October Russia had used five Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missiles, nine Banderol/Dan-T loitering munitions and 108 Shahed-type attack drones; air defences shot down or suppressed 88 drones.

Separately on 13 October Suspilne reported daytime and evening attacks on Kyiv and the region: drone debris in Solomianskyi and Darnytskyi districts, injured women, fires in private homes and warehouses in Kyiv Oblast. On the evening of 13 October officials also reported a strike on a key energy facility in the capital — CHP-4.

Context

The strikes come after US President Donald Trump announced an “energy ceasefire”. Kyiv says it supports a mutual halt to attacks on energy infrastructure, but Moscow continues to hit residential and critical sites. For the capital that means both a direct risk to people in apartment blocks and pressure on power and heating ahead of winter.

Why it matters

Ballistic missiles leave less reaction time than drones. When early warning is late or missing, the air-raid siren may sound only after explosions. A night strike on a residential nine-storey building again shows that civilian districts of Kyiv remain direct targets, regardless of diplomatic talk of a truce.
